Bharatmala project details :The bharatmala project has been touted as the second-largest highways construction project in india after the National Highways Development Project (NHDP). The road network built under the center's flagship bharatmala project, is likely to support quicker movment of cargo and boost international trade, among other things.
"The project focuses on Optimising efficiency of freight and passenger movement across the country, by bridging critical infrastructure gaos through effective interventions like development of economic corridos, inter-corridor efficiency improvement, border and international connectivity roads, coastal and port connectivity roads and greenfield expressways, "the Road Transport Ministry said, in Statment.

Bharatmala pariyojna Project Current Stetus 2022
As per initial plan of the NHAI, the frist phase of the Bharatmala project was to be completed towards the end of 2022. But due to the pandemic and othe issues associated with cost overruns and land acquisition, The completion has been delayed till 2026. The delay has also brought in a Bharatmala project cost escalation of 54%
A report by ICRA suggests that if all the work contracts are awarded by the end of the financial year 2023, Previously the estimated cost was Rs.5.35 lakh crores but has now escalated to Rs.8.5 lakh crores.

Currently, no BharatmalaPariyojna project details are available for the second phase. it is in the planning stage. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified 5,000 km of networks that need to be covered.
