Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evem Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) Scheme

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evem Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) Scheme for farmers for installation of solar pumps and grid-connected solar and other renewable power plants in the country. The scheme aims to add solar and another renewable capacity of 25,750 MW by 2022 with the total central financial support of Rs. 34,422 Crore including service charges to the implementing agencies.

Scheme Components
The Scheme consists of three components:
  1. Component A: 10,000 MW of Decentralized Ground Mounted Grid Connected Renewable Power Plants of individual plant size up to 2 MW.
  2. Component B: Installation of 17.50 lakh standalone Solar Powered Agriculture Pumps of individual pump capacity up to 7.5 HP.
  3. Component C: Solarisation of 10 Lakh Grid-connected Agriculture Pumps of individual pump capacity up to 7.5 HP.

Scheme implementation

State Nodal Agencies(SNAs) of MNRE will coordinate with States/UTs, Discoms and farmers for implementation of the scheme.

Components A and C of the Scheme will be implemented in Pilot mode till 31st December 2019. Component B, which is an ongoing sub-programme, will be implemented in entirety without going through pilot mode.

The capacities to be implemented under pilot mode for the Components A and C are as follows:
  1. Component A: Commissioning of 1000 MW capacity of ground/ stilt mounted solar or other renewable energy source based power projects
  2. Component C: Solarization of 1,00,000 grid-connected agriculture pumps
  3. On successful implementation of a pilot run of Components A and C of the Scheme, these components would be scaled-up, after getting necessary approval.

Scheme benefits

The scheme will open a stable and continuous source of income to the rural landowners for a period of 25 years by utilisation of their dry/uncultivable land. Further, in case cultivated fields are chosen for setting up solar power project, the farmers could continue to grow crops as the solar panels are to be set up above a minimum height.

The proposed scheme would ensure that sufficient local solar/ other renewable energy-based power is available for feeding rural load centres and agriculture pump-set loads, which require power mostly during the day time. As these power plants will be located closer to the agriculture loads or to electrical substations in a decentralized manner, it will result in reduced Transmission losses for STUs and Discoms. Moreover, the scheme will also help the Discoms to achieve the RPO target

The solar pumps will save the expenditure incurred on diesel for running diesel pump and provide the farmers with a reliable source of irrigation through the solar pump apart from preventing harmful pollution from running diesel pump. In light of the long waiting list for electric grid connection, this scheme will benefit 17.5 lakh farmers over a period of four years, without adding to the grid load.

SBI RD Scheme 2019-20: A recurring deposit is a special kind of term deposit offered by banks which help people with regular incomes to deposit a fixed amount every month into their recurring deposit account and earn interest at the rate applicable to fixed deposits.

SBI Recurring Deposit Interest Calculator

  1. In a periodic interest payout option, SBI would transfer the interest earned at each interval (say, quarterly) to your bank account. The interest would remain the same across the life of the deposit. On maturity of RD, unless the deposit is renewed, would transfer the principal amount to your bank account.
  2. In case you opt for an SBI cumulative deposit, on maturity you would get a credit for the principal and interest earned net of TDS.
  3. Calculate the RD maturity amount using the RD calculator.
Tax on Recurring Deposit SBI
  1. In case the interest earned by you across all your recurring deposits across all branches of SBI in a year exceeds 10,000, the bank must deduct TDS at 10.3%. In case your IT PAN is not updated in the SBI records, it must deduct twice the TDS at 20.6%. So, do remember to update your PAN on your RD.
  2. We aren’t done yet. This was only the TDS. Now, you would need to add the interest income on all your SBI RD’s and other RD’s to your taxable income for the year. Based upon your tax bracket, income tax is payable on this income. You must estimate the interest income and all your other incomes and, based on this, pay advance tax on advance tax payment dates (15th Sep, 15th Dec, 15th March and 31st March).
  3. SBI will also issue you a Form 16A giving details of tax deducted on RD interest and tax deposited by it with government treasury. The TDS amount deposited by the bank with the Income Tax Department can be verified in your 26AS statement available online on the IT department website or through your net banking account. You can claim credit for the TDS amount in your annual Income Tax Return.
