Kerala is the most literate state in India, with 96.2% literacy rate.

After Kerala, Delhi has the highest literacy rate in the country at 88.7%.

Whereas, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar have the worst literacy rate, as per the report.

According to Census 2001, India’s literacy rate was 65.38%, and over two decades India has made significant progress in improving literacy. In India, about 77.7% of people can read and write,a recent report said. About 73.5% living in rural areas, and 87.7% of people living in urban areas are literate.

The report on ‘Household So cial Consumption: Education in India as part of the 75th round of National Sample Survey – from July 2017 to June 2018’ provides for state-wise detail of literacy rate among the persons aged seven years and above.

These are India’s most literate states — ranked:

1.Kerala

Literacy rate: 96.2%

Kerala has been the most literate state in India for a few years now. However, in Kerala also, male literacy (97.4%) is more than the female literacy rate (95.2%).
